England Women v Windies Women | Preview

Heather Knight’s side have won their last six games on the bounce in the shortest form of the game and their last 13 in all white-ball matches. This series will be their final international preparation before this summer’s Ashes series starting on July 2.

The Windies last victory against England came in the 2018 T20 World Cup group stage on home soil where they topped the group with a perfect record, eventual finalists England only scraped to the semi-finals by a single point.

21-year-old Windies all-rounder Hayley Matthews stole the headlines against the Irish in their recent series, smashing a 59-ball hundred in the last game with the Windies posting an imposing 188-1. Chedean Nation scored 63 with the pair putting together an unbeaten 162-run partnership. Vastly experienced Jamaican skipper Stafanie Taylor is approaching one hundred T20 internationals and has been a versatile batter in the order of late. Coming in at three and scoring 75 in the opener but then sliding down to eight in the second fixture, demonstrating the options her team possesses to react to the game situation. Recently the batting has let them down in the ODI series with England, though young Matthews stood up with the ball taking 4-57 in the last match, the best figures by any Windies bowler in the series.

England will be hoping for more of a test in the lead-up to the Ashes following the three one-dayers where they won by over 120 runs in all three. Scoreboard pressure working for them in every one of those, so it will be interesting to see what Knight or Taylor’s decision will be at the toss. Opening bat Amy Jones really shone, averaging 63.00 for the series with a top score of 91. The 26-year-old has posted two half centuries across 34 T20 internationals, but with a healthy strike rate she’ll have the opportunity to continue her form against the Windies. Captain Heather Knight is in good touch herself, scoring a run a ball 94 in the first ODI and is confident that her team can continue their fine form.

Tickets are available on the gate, gates open at 5pm with the match starting at 7pm.
