Northamptonshire Move to Second With Comprehensive Win

Northamptonshire needed just the morning session to complete a comprehensive, 7 wicket win over Leicestershire at Grace Road.

After a productive final 5 overs at the end of Day 4, Northamptonshire came into the day needing a further 119 runs to win with all 10 wickets in hand. Curran and Newton took their opening partnership past 50 in the 15th over as Curran smartly reverse swept behind point. The total moved to 68 before the first wicket fell, Rob Newton trapped in front by a ball that nipped back from Evans.

Progress was steady throughout the morning despite the loss of Curran for 40 and Keogh for 17. Wakely and Levi completed the chase in comfortable fashion, the former launching Parkinson for a towering six straight back down the ground on his way to 44 not out.

The win sees Northamptonshire move to second on the Specsavers County Championship table with two games to play. Their next fixture is at home against Durham beginning on Monday the 16th of September, tickets are available online now.
