The Sri Lankan all-rounder won the award after his exploits in the LV= County Championship, where Vaas took 70 wickets at an average of 21, and scored over 400 runs.

Vaas was also named the club’s LV= County Championship Players’ Player of the Year.

The night was also a good one for batsman Alex Wakely, who picked up no less than three awards. The 22-year-old won the Frank Rudd Shield for Young Player of the Year, as well and the Players’ Player awards for both the Friends Life t20 and Clydesdale Bank 40 competitions after amassing 1376 over the season.

James Middlebrook was named as the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph Media Player of the Year after taking 55 wickets and scoring over 800 runs for the County this season.

1^st XI Scorer Tony Kingston was named the Frank & Doris Spokes Clubman of the Year for his fantastic service to Northants over the past 21 years.

The End of Season Awards Dinner was also a time to celebrate the achievements of the Northamptonshire Steel-ettos, for whom Laura Tonks won Batter of the Year, Patricia Hankins won Bowler of the Year and Amy Gaurvit won Most Improved Player of the Year.
