The first day of the Northants vs. Derbyshire LV County Championship was called off at 4.30pm after only eight overs of play were possible.
Derbyshire won the toss and sent Northants in to bat first. Ex- Northants player Chris Rogers' decision to field proved a good one as Nantie Hayward found Ben Howgego's edge and Rogers held on. Talented opener Howgego walked back to dressing room for a duck.
Derbyshire seamer Hayward did slightly twist his ankle but is expected to play on tomorrow.
Stephen Peters was joined by Rob White and the pair were unbeaten on 11 and 10 respectively, before the heavens opened.
The rain started and finished in regular intervals to keep the groundsmen busy, whilst the players were relaxing and playing card games in the dressing room.
