NORTHANTS Cricket have today boosted their prospects of building upon an encouraging 2009 season by securing the futures of two of their most influential performers throughout the summer.
All-rounder Andrew Hall and seam bowler David Lucas have signed contract extensions which ensures they will be key figures in Head Coach David Capel's plans for the coming seasons at the County Ground.
Hall, who made a big impact in all forms of cricket, will be staying with Northants Cricket until the end of the 2012 season, while Lucas will help to spearhead the county's pace attack for the next two seasons.
Capel welcomed news of the extensions to the pair's contracts by commenting: "Andrew and David produced outstanding performances on a consistent basis for the Club during the 2009 season and I look forward to the opportunity to continue working with them during the coming seasons.
"We took some considerable strides forward with our cricket last season and we are keen to progress further and challenge for honours."
Hall's all-round qualities were underlined by the fact that he scored more 1,000 first class runs and chipped in with 40 wickets as well, all of which resulted in him being voted 'Steffan's Jewellers Player of the Year.'
"I am really happy with being offered this extension on my contract," declared the 34-year-old South African who retired from international cricket in 2007. "We have had such a good year in 2009 and I am looking forward to coming back and helping the club push on to bigger and better things."
Lucas claimed 60 first class wickets in 2009, the highlight being his career best figures of 7-24 against Gloucestershire in July.
"I am delighted to be offered this opportunity, especially after my best season in the game," said the 31-year-old left arm seamer. "I will do everything to help the team win some silverware in the next two seasons. We have a strong squad forming for next season and I'm looking forward to getting back out on the pitch."
