Honours even in Uxbridge draw

Northamptonshire drew their Second XI Championship match against Middlesex at Vine Lane after being left to score 317 in what turned out to be 56 overs after a brief rain interruption.

The home side - who resumed on 123-5 in their second innings - declared at lunchtime on 205-8 with Bud Bailey (3-46) and Tom Brett (3-55) taking the bowling honours.

Northants then made a good fist of their run-chase thanks to Paul Harrison (82), Ben Howgego (40) and Mark Nelson (25).

And although the loss of important wickets eventually killed off the vicory challenge they had little trouble saving the match, closing on 261-8.
