Northamptonshire endured another long stint in the field as Middlesex piled on the runs at the start of the Second XI Championship match at Vine Lane, Uxbridge.
The hosts' openers - Neil Dexter (150) and Adam London (70) - carried on where they left off in the Trophy game the previous day, posting 163 for the first wicket.
And with Ben Housego (93) also in excellent form Middlesex were able to declare on 424-8 shortly before the close.
'Bud' Bailey, Mark Nelson, Tom Brett and Dan Bendon picked up a couple of wickets each for the County.
Northamptonshire closed on 17-0 from eight overs in reply, and will hope to take their turn to pile on the runs on Thursday.
