Nelson shines between the showers

Mark Nelson was back among the runs on a rain-interrupted opening day of Northamptonshire's Second XI Championship match against Kent at King's School, Canterbury.

Nelson followed his match-winning 75 not out in Monday's Trophy fixture with 46 to boost the County to 172-6 from 48 overs after winning the toss.

David Murphy (28), Steven Crook (22) and Rob Newton (20) all made starts without going on, while Dan Bendon was unbeaten on 20 at the close.
