Northants Academy player Robert Newton has been selected to play in three one-day matches against County 2nd Xi's in a bid to earn a place in the England U19's 2010 World Cup squad. The talented batsman, who has been at the County for the best part of six years, has been selected to feature in games on the 7th, 8th and 11th of September against Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire 2nd Xi's.
If the 19-year-old impresses his coaches, he could follow the likes of Rob White, Stephen Peters, Graeme White and Alex Wakely, who captained the last world cup squad to the semi-final stage in 2008.
Head coach David Capel said of his selection, "Robert fully deserves his chance. He has played some great cricket and has the ability to become an excellent cricketer. With further experiences, such as this, Rob is capable of doing really well in the game. Well done Rob!"
