Seconds rained off again

The weather had the final say as Northamptonshire's Second XI Championship match against Essex at Campbell Park was abandoned as a draw.

A double declaration - Northants pulling out at their overnight total of 119-5 before Essex knocked up 103-3 in quick time - left the County needing 300 to win in a minimum of 68 overs.

They had reached 24-0 in the first over after lunch when a lightning strike nearby prompted the umpires to take the players off the field and they didn't return as the rain set in again.
