northantscricket.com caught up with head coach David Capel after a superb win against Worcestershire Royals.
David was determined that the Steelbacks can go all the way- reiterating the message, "Our main aim has always been to win the Twenty20 cup. We want to be champions."
David Continued, "We set an objective of getting a home quarter-final, and it's very good to achieve the objective. It's very satisfying. I'm very pleased for all the lads.
"The lads have worked hard for it, and there's been a lot of excellent cricket played during the group stages
Areas that has impressed everyone at the County Ground has been the great fielding and brilliant bowling on display at every match – Something David agreed with, "The bowling has been superb. Hall and van der Wath have played their roles; Whilst Harvey came in every so often and picked up vital wickets.
"I have also been impressed by the young David Willey. To bowl 20 overs for 97 runs and get 10 wickets. A wicket every 12 ball, costing less than 5 runs an over. It was exceptional and shows a consistent effort.
"Also, Nicky Boje has led the team tremendously well. He definitely deserves to be rated very highly for the way he's done his job. And to the rest of the lads who have supported Nicky really well and done their jobs superbly."
With the quarter-final spot secured, David is happy with how much competition there is for places. "There's a lot of competition for places, which is excellent. The quarter-final is ahead of us and we do have a lot of important cricket before that. We need to perform well in the County Championship starting against Derbyshire on the 7th July."
The Steelbacks started preparing themselves for a possible quarter-final appearance during the group stage. "We have played every game since the Somerset match as though it was a knockout game. And we will continue that in the quarter-final. Just think, we will be playing for a place at the finals day. That's a massive game for the lads and the club.
David was also full of appreciation for the fans who gave the team such excellent support at Sunday's game, "The fan's were amazing! I appreciated all the support and noise they made. They really helped and gave the lads so much confidence. I haven't heard the County Ground like that for many, many years."
"These types of games come along every so often. We don't need any help getting revved up but we do need the fans' support, and it would be great for the players to play that quarter-final in front of a packed County Ground."
"We're three stages from achieving our goals, and as I've said, our main aim is become Twenty20 champions!"
