Northants started day three of their LV= County Championship clash with Nottinghamshire on 241/8, and for one of the first times during the game, with the sun in the sky.
However Northants did not get off to a good start, losing their remaining two wickets for only seven runs, meaning they fell just two runs shy of the second batting point.
Fortunately for Northants, their bowling attack did start well, as they had Nottinghamshire rocking on 30/3. However Nottinghamshire’s line up is full of International players, and in this case James Taylor and Samit Patel were the men to kick start Nottinghamshire’s come back. The pair put on 91, before Patel was caught by Newton for 30 off Chambers.
Taylor was trapped lbw by Middlebrook for an excellent 78 during the evening session, and was the last wicket of the day to fall. Nottinghamshire ended the day on 259/5, with former Northants player Ricki Wessels looking impressive, finishing on 78 not out.
Maurice Chambers was the pick of the Northants bowlers, ending the day with figures of 2 for 47. Trailing by only 11 runs, Northants will be looking to keep their run deficit at a minimum and pick up the remaining two bowling points on offer tomorrow, in a game that looks destined to end in a draw.
