The Steelbacks kick off their 2014 NatWest T20 Blast campaign, with a trip to Headingley to take on Yorkshire Vikings.
The Steelbacks will be looking to replicate last season’s success, as they aim to defend their T20 crown. The side know they will have a target on their backs as defending champions and welcome the expectation that comes along with that tag.
Steelbacks Head Coach, David Ripley said, “We don’t feel there is any pressure, a little more expectation I guess, as we were very long odds last year and caught a few people off guard. Obviously sides will know more about us this year.”
Yorkshire Vikings struggled in last year’s T20 competition, finishing bottom of the North Group, after winning only two games. However, this game will be no walkover for the Steelbacks, as Yorkshire have announced a strong squad, full of International players.
David Ripley has named a strong 12-man squad for the trip to Headingley, led by Steelbacks Captain Kyle Coetzer.
Both of the Steelbacks’ overseas players Richard Levi and Ian Butler have been named in the squad.
