Lyth and Lees Shine in County Ground Sun

It was a beautiful warm sunny day here at the County Ground for day two of the LV= County Championship clash between Northants and Yorkshire.

Northants resumed on 191/7, Ben Duckett and Maurice Chambers were at the crease, with the pitch looking like it was drying up and the weather seeming perfect for batting. The Northants pair started the day off strongly, with Duckett making a superb half century, before finally being bowled by Adil Rashid for 51. Chambers then followed suit a few overs later as he was caught off the same bowler for 17, as Northants finished 251 all out and with a lead of 115 runs.

Yorkshire knew they needed to step their intensity up a few levels, and the opening pair of Adam Lyth and Alex Lees did just that. On a pitch that was starting to favour the batsmen and in almost perfect batting conditions, the openers basked in the sunshine, as they didn’t give anything away and kept the scoreboard ticking.

Unfortunately for the Northants bowlers, they just could not make a breakthrough, as Lyth and Lees did not give away an inch on their way to making centuries. Lyth (116) was the first man to hit three figures, and was quickly followed by Lees who ended on 105, as Yorkshire finished the day 237/0, leading by 122 runs.

The Northants bowling attack know they will need to come out firing in the morning session on day three, as they look to break up this strong Yorkshire partnership. Follow @NorthantsCCC on Twitter, for regular updates.
