Northants Cricket is delighted to announce that Ben Duckett, James Middlebrook and David Willey have been nominated the Steffans Jewellers Player of the Month award
Ben Duckett has been in good form throughout May and started to position himself as the first choice wicket keeper in the team. Duckett made the headlines in the Steelbacks’ first NatWest T20 Blast game of the season, as he hit a composed 39 not out from 29 balls, to see the Steelbacks through to victory against Yorkshire Vikings. Duckett has also scored two half centuries in the LV= County Championship whilst averaging 21.8.
This is the second month in a row the ever dependable James Middlebrook has been nominated for the award. Middlebrook has been Northants’ most reliable batsman so far this season, having scored 401 runs at an average of 33.4, this includes an excellent against Yorkshire in the last LV= County Championship match.
David Willey has carried the momentum he gained in the t20 Final last year, on to this season in the NatWest T20 Blast. Opening the batting has been probably the most entertaining player in the competition this season, having scored 172 runs at an average of 57.3, with a strike rate of 189 thanks to his competition high 13 sixes . David’s best performance came against Leicestershire Foxes, where he smashed 95 from just 45 balls, in the Steelbacks’ two wicket victory.
