Graeme White reflected on the importance of Thursday night’s NatWest T20 Blast victory over the Birmingham Bears.
White said, “To get a win under our belt tonight was hugely important. It gives us a chance going into the last few fixtures in the competition”.
The twenty-seven year old added, “We knew what was at stake last night and we just had to go out there and win. If we can perform consistently like that, in particular our fielding, which I thought was outstanding”.
“We are a good fielding side and we need to back ourselves out there because it gives the bowlers a lot more confidence.”
“Everyone really chipped in tonight and that was exactly what we needed – it was that kind of night especially when you’re defending a total like 140.”
White added that, “We’ve got to continue this tomorrow. It’s no good winning tonight if we can’t back it up tomorrow night. We’re all looking forward to getting back out there.
Steelbacks Captain Kyle Coetzer said that the victory has been coming and it now gives his side the confidence they need to push on in the competition now.
“It was exactly what we needed. We’ve been playing some decent cricket but we just haven’t been getting over the line so it was nice to get the victory tonight. I thought we played an outstanding game of cricket this evening”.
Coetzer added, “The difference today was that we managed to pick up a couple of early wickets and it enabled us to build up pressure. This win really gives us the confidence and momentum we’ve been looking for in recent weeks”.
The Steelbacks are back in action tonight against Leicestershire. The next game at the County Ground is next Friday (11th July) against the Derbyshire Falcons
