Maurice Chambers was on target with three wickets as Northamptonshire shaded the honours on the opening day of their Second XI Championship match against Somerset at Campbell Park in Milton Keynes.
Chambers claimed 3-40 as the visitors were dismissed for 194 - Gemaal Hussain and Saif Zaib each picking up a couple of victims.
The County closed on 32-2 in reply with on-loan batsman Adam Rossington finishing the day 23 not out.
It follows Monday's three-wicket defeat against the same opponents in the one-day Trophy match, also at Campbell Park.
Chad Barrett (33) and Saif Zaib (32) led the way in the County's 183 all out - but Somerset knocked off the runs at 184-7 with a couple of overs to spare, Barrett (4-33) also capturing the bowling honours.
