Northants Cricket can announce that Kiwi seamer Ian Butler has returned to New Zealand early due to injury.
Whilst with the club, Ian took six wickets in four games at an average of 15.6 in the NatWest T20 Blast. Ian also played in two LV= County Championship games, where he took 4 wickets and was also a good influence in the dressing room.
Commenting on Butler’s departure, Head Coach David Ripley said, “We signed Ian at short notice, after a third overseas player withdrew, mainly for the NatWest T20 Blast but also hoped he would be able to manage playing in some LV= County Championship games as well.
It’s sad to say, that Ian picked up an injury and won’t take any further part this season. Ian was a positive influence in the dressing room, but unfortunately couldn’t contribute as fully as both of us would have wanted on the field.”
Replacing Butler will be fellow Kiwi pace bowler Neil Wagner. Wagner is currently in the West Indies with New Zealand, and is likely to make his debut against Nottinghamshire in the LV= County Championship in August.
