Paternott sees seconds home

Lloyd Paternott guided Northamptonshire to a comfortable victory in Monday's Second XI Trophy fixture against Sussex at Desborough.

The 22-year-old - who has also turned out for Hertfordshire and Oxford MCCU - hit an unbeaten 86 as the County reached their modest-looking target of 160 with only three wickets down and plenty of overs to spare.

Sussex struggled after being put in to bat at West Lodge Park and were dismissed for just 159 in the 44th over - Akhil Patel, brother of Nottinghamshire's Samit, leading the way with 4-25.

He then notched 36 to help Paternott settle the issue in the 28th over of the County's reply.

The two sides will start a three-day Championship match at Finedon Dolben CC's Avenue Road ground on Tuesday.
