Regional selectors for the Under 17 and Under 15 (Bunbury) tournaments have selected six Northamptonshire players (five from the Academy and one from the Emerging Players Programme) to contest the annual 4 team national competitions over the next two weeks.
Academy players Matthew Taylor, Kyle Awbery and Saif Zaib will represent the Midlands Under 17's. At Under 15 level, Academians Ben Claydon and Will Rogers will be joined at the prestigious Bunbury festival by EPP player Will Heathfield.
Second XI Coach & Academy Director Phil Rowe commented "It's obviously very good to see the lads receiving regional recognition, reflecting their hard work and talent. Regional cricket is a stepping stone to National youth programmes, so we wish the lads all the best without putting any extra pressure on their young shoulders.
"It's great for coaches in our pathway to see the youngsters that they have coached, often over a number of years, selected as being amongst the best 14 young players in the Midlands region."
The Under 15 Bunbury Festival takes place at Oakham School commencing Monday 21st July, and is a tournament for the England stars of tomorrow with the likes of current England captain Alistair Cook, James Anderson and Joe Root all having taken part in the festival. The Under 17 Super 4's tournament starts a week later at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Lougborough University
