The Northants U17 side were in action over the last two days as the side played out a competitive draw against their Worcestershire counterparts in the penultimate two day fixture of the 2014 season for the team.
Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat first at Desborough Cricket Club, a ground where the majority of the Northants age group sides’ home fixtures are played.
Worcestershire made a steady start and put 40 on for the first wicket before the home side struck with two quick wickets to leave the visitors 53-2.
The visitors went on to make 409-7 in 110 overs as Northants bowlers Jamie Delargy (2-50), Aiden Foakes (2-50) and Marc Bell (2-51) both impressed with the ball taking a brace of wickets.
Both sides agreed that Northants were given 94 overs to try and chase the score down on the second day. Northants batted out those 94 overs and finished on 264-7 with Shiv Patel (68) and Marc Bell (44) both contributing very well with the bat. Drew Brierley (26), Matthew Taylor (27) and Ethen Delargy (36*) all chipped in to contribute to the total.
The side stay third in the two day league with just one game left to be played. This followed reaching the semi-finals last year before being knocked out by Durham.
This game was the sides’ penultimate game and the U17’s finish their season with an away fixture at Warwickshire, played at King Edwards’ School in two weeks’ time (6th/7th August).
