Tail wags for seconds at Guildford

A 91-run stand for the last wicket boosted Northamptonshire to a handy-looking total on the opening day of their Second XI Championship match against Surrey at Guildford.

The County rallied from 250-9 to 341 all out after winning the toss - and the men responsible for the wagging tail were ex-Durham Academy seamer Yasir Abbas (67 not out) and Northants Academy leg-spinner Matthew Taylor (46).

Earlier, Akhil Patel weighed in with a useful 46 as Northamptonshire looked to post a solid first-innings score.

Surrey will resume on Wednesday at 52 without loss from 13 overs in reply.
