David Smith delighted with new Schedule

19th October 2012

Northants Cricket Chief Executive David Smith confirmed he was delighted that the new domestic structure to be implemented in the 2014 cricket season had allowed the club to stage regular Friday Night t20 cricket throughout the summer months.

The County Championship will primarily have a regular start day of Sundays and there will be a 50 over competition to replace the current pro-40 competition. This competition will be played in two blocks during July & August. Leading to Quarter and Semi Finals with a show piece Lords Final.

The structure is;

  • 16 Four Day Championship Matches.
  • 14 t20 Matches.
  • 8 50 Over Matches.

We all now know the schedule for the foreseeable future and we now have more regular start days for our games.

It has been proved beyond any doubt that t20 games played on Friday nights in Northampton under floodlights attract larger crowds and we are confident with the new opportunity of regular scheduling that we can create larger footfall and grow our fan base.
