NCCC supports University Technical College Daventry

The University of Northampton, one of Northants Cricket's partners is one of a number of bodies currently helping to build a brand new University Technical College in Daventry.

Led by Moulton College and working with The University of Northampton, Northamptonshire County Council, Daventry District Council and a host of commercial partners this exciting new college for the East Midlands will offer a high quality, technology-focussed course of study where students will be encouraged to reach their full potential, whether they wish to progress to university or embark upon a career in industry.

Courses will allow Year 10 students initially to specialise in new technologies in engineering, construction or environmental sustainability, alongside a strong core of academic subjects and students will also benefit from regular work experience, guidance and mentoring from industry professionals and university ambassadors.

Daventry UTC is designed to help YR 10 students to develop as individuals, prepare them for a successful career and to contribute to society.  This innovative alternative to mainstream education will value both academic excellence and technical skills - equipping students with the skills for a career in industry, or the qualifications and study skills for entry to higher education.

Daventry UTC will deliver:-

  • Brand new, cutting-edge facilities
  • Qualifications valued by employers in addition to GCSEs and A/AS levels
  • An individualised approach to learning with close mentorship and careers advice
  • Regular, stimulating work experience with local and national employers
  • Real life project-based learning delivered by industry experts forming the backbone of the curriculum
  • A working day of 8:30-5:30 (4:30 on Fridays), allowing time to complete essential homework and participate in a range of enrichment activities as part of the standard day

 Daventry UTC will specialise in:

1: New Technologies in Engineering

2: Sustainable Construction

3: Environmental Sustainability

Students will participate in up to four 8-week projects a year – meaning you could find yourself experimenting with the latest photovoltaic  technologies or energy-saving controls; stress testing engines to maximise performance while monitoring emissions or conducting research on the latest construction methods and materials to understand the implications of their use on the environment.

Daventry UTC is accepting applications now and expects to be making offers from March 2013.
