Steelbacks seamer raring to perform for England Under 19's

Steelbacks seamer Olly Stone is set to embark on a tour of South Africa with the England Under 19’s, and the youngster seems excited at the opportunity it presents him and fellow Steelbacks team mate Ben Duckett.

The tour, which runs from January 23 to February 21 2013, is set to serve as the initial part of the preparation for the Under-19 World Cup in February 2014 and the squad therefore predominantly consists of Under-18 and Under-17 players.

Olly said of his call up, “It’s a great achievement to be asked to go out and play for England in South Africa. I’m really happy with the chance and I’m looking forward to getting out there and showing everyone what I can do.”

“I can’t wait to get out there to get a bit of sun and play outdoors once again for the first time since the back end of September."

The team will play two four-day Tests and five one-day internationals versus their South Africa counterparts later this month, and Olly is pleased he will be joined in the squad by fellow Steelbacks youngster Ben Duckett.

“Yeah, it will be good.” Stated the 18-year-old seamer, “I get on well with Ben already and I’m sure he is looking forward to it too. It will help to play alongside Ben out in South Africa.”

With many Steelbacks currently training and playing around the world, such as Rob Newton in New Zealand and Rob Keogh out in Australia, this tour is set to provide Olly and Ben with a fantastic opportunity to get some warm weather training and match practice under their belts.

A fact Olly agreed with when saying, “I think it could prove to be a vital part of my preparations. It means my preparations will be different from the year before and the change could improve things for me. Hopefully coming back with a couple of weeks to train before the Barbados pre season trip means it will be a varied and exciting few months for myself.”

Northants Cricket would like to wish both Olly and Ben good luck for their tour with the England Under 19’s.
