Northants Cricket can announce that the County Ground will host a 12-over Memorial Match in honour of former all-rounder Kevin Curran, between a Northants XI and Gloucestershire XI.
The Kevin Curran Memorial match will take place at 11am on Sunday 14th July before the Steelbacks play Glamorgan in a Friends Life t20 match at 3pm.
Former Northants player Alan Fordham has organised the Memorial match to include a Northants XI of Kevin Curran’s former team mates from the 1992 NatWest Trophy winning season. They will face a Gloucestershire XI – Kevin’s other County team.
During the Memorial match and the following Friends Life t20 match against Glamorgan, funds are being raised for the British Heart Foundation, through bucket collections. This comes as Alan Fordham will also be running the London Marathon for this charity and monies raised will be part of his overall fundraising effort.
Alan Fordham said of the Memorial match, “The Northamptonshire dressing-room that I enjoyed for many years lost its first member in Kevin Curran. A popular member of the team, I set about organising this Memorial Match in Kevin’s honour and have managed to get together two teams from his playing days.”
“We are planning a fundraising lunch between the two matches and a bucket collection around what should be a decent crowd for the afternoon match if the sun shines. I am of course most grateful to Northamptonshire CCC and my former team-mates for their support of this fundraising effort.”
