The Nightwatchman is a new cricket quarterly from Wisden, and is available in print and e-book formats. It features the best writers from all walks of life writing on any aspect of the game in a style and to a length of their choosing.

In the first issue, out for the start of the season, Jon Hotten muses on the role of nightwatchmen, Wisden India editor Anand Vasu ponders the itinerant life of the modern professional cricketer and Siddharta Vaidyanathan waxes lyrical on Sachin Tendulkar. Best-selling author and historian James Holland retraces the final steps of legendary England spinner Hedley Verity, shot dead in Sicily during the WWII, and Harvard mathematician Bob Kaplan explains how cricket saved us from Martian invasion. Meanwhile, Christian Ryan glories in the genius of Shiv Chanderpaul and Dileep Premachandran records the passing of India’s golden generation. And that's just for starters – try out the free sampler on the site to see who else has contributed.

To celebrate the launch of The Nightwatchman we will be giving away five FREE copies of the first issue, and all you have to do to enter is visit the website and email comps@nightwatchman.net with the answer to this question: Which famous poet's quote is on our homepage.  Please state your county in your entry.
