Match Preview: Northants vs. Hampshire

Northants take on one of the LV= County Championship Division two favourites in Hampshire here at the County Ground from Wednesday, in what could be a vital match for both sides involved.

The Hampshire match comes at the start of a four match block that Head Coach David Ripley sees as a very important period should Northants want to remain in promotion contention.

David spoke to BBC Northampton yesterday on the upcoming match, CLICK HERE to read his thoughts.

The team built confidence superbly before this match by winning back to back matches in the Yorkshire Bank 40, including a first home win for over two years!

Hampshire will represent tough opposition for the County and have performed well so far this season, and currently sit 2nd behind Northants after two wins and three draws.

With the continuing absence of captain Stephen Peters due to injury, Matthew Spriegel is set to partner Kyle Coetzer at the top of the order, the other noticeable change to the squad sees Muhammad Azhar Ullah come in for Steven Crook who is set to be rested after his recent heroics, so he can remain fresh ahead of a busy month of fixtures.

It would be Azhar’s debut for Northants, and one that’s been earned through solid bowling displays for the 2nd XI in recent weeks.

David Murphy retains the gloves and Alex Wakely will captain the side in what will be Trent Copeland’s penultimate Championship match for the County.
