Northants Academy pair Matthew Plater and Jack Goode underlined their potential as the County's Second XI beat Huntingdonshire in Thursday's one-day friendly at St Ives.
Plater led the way with 89 from 101 balls and shared a fourth-wicket stand worth 140 with Zak Khawaja (52) to boost Northamptonshire to 167-3 - but a collapse then saw the innings wind up for 211 all out in the 46th over.
Muhammad Azharullah then snapped up three quick wickets to reduce Hunts to 78-5 in reply when rain stopped play.
Conditions eventually improved and the home side faced a revised a target of 165 in 39 overs - but they were dismissed for 143 with Goode (3-30), Luke Evans (2-10) and Christian Davis (2-38) all enjoying some success.
The seconds return to competitive action next week with the start of the T20 competition.
