Northamptonshire and Leicestershire shared the honours on the opening day of the Second XI Twenty20 competition at Hinckley on Monday.
The format sees the two sides meet twice on each matchday - and on this occasion the County won the first contest but lost the second.
Muhammad Azharullah starred in the opener, picking up three wickets in the last over to restrict Leicestershire to 137-7 - Azhar finishing with 3-22 from three overs.
And Josh Tolley's unbeaten 42 steered Northamptonshire home at 142-7 for a three-wicket win with five balls to spare.
The second match saw the County reach 124-8 - thanks almost entirely to ex-Surrey man Tom Lancefield with 72, while Academy youngster Vicram Sohal chipped in with a handy 16 not out.
But it wasn't quite enough as Leicestershire got to their target at 126-6 with seven balls remaining, despite a couple of wickets apiece for Lancefield and Christian Davis.
The second continue their T20 campaign with two matches against Essex at Chelmsford on Wednesday.
