Northants Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of South African Twenty20 star Richard Levi as the club’s 2nd Overseas signing for this year’s Friends Life t20 campaign.
Available for the entire tournament, the 25-year-old will add considerable firepower to the top of the Steelbacks batting line-up, having featured in 13 T20 internationals and 78 Twenty20 matches.
The opening batsman broke the record for the fastest century in a T20 international, smashing a ton in just 45 balls in only his 2nd international appearance. The innings also saw the Johannesburg-born batsman score a record 13 sixes in an unbeaten 117*.
The former Somerset t20 overseas star will join up with his new team mates in time for the Steelbacks first Friends Life t20 match vs. Gloucestershire on Friday 28th June, starting at 6.30pm.
Head Coach David Ripley said of Levi’s signing, “We are delighted to welcome Richard to the County Ground as he will add much needed firepower to the top of our order in this format. His willingness to jump on a plane and get over here at very short notice, is testament to his desire to play not just for us, but to try and force himself back into international contention – something we hope this stint at Northants will help him achieve.”
“We are looking forward to Richard joining Cameron White here at the County Ground as we go all out for a place in the latter stages of the Friends Life t20.”
