Steelbacks v Somerset

The Steelbacks have their second game in two days today, as they host pre-tournament favourites Somerset in the Friends Life t20 here at the County Ground. After putting in a brilliant performance yesterday, as they Gloucestershire at Cheltenham by 17 runs after being led by Richard Levi’s superb 110 not out innings.

The win over Gloucestershire put the Steelbacks tied on points with group leaders Glamorgan, they are only second due to an inferior net run rate. These two sides met just over a week ago at Taunton, where Somerset narrowly edged out a determined Steelbacks side, winning by 6 wickets with only 7 balls remaining and is the Steelbacks’ only loss in the competition. Somerset were very thankful on the day to their overseas signing Alviro Peterson, whose 64 not out drove them to victory, although they won’t be able to rely on him today as he is away on international duty.

Somerset came in to this year’s Friends Life t20 in their usual spot of pre-tournament favourites. However after starting strongly winning their first two games, they have struggled over the last two games as they have lost to both Glamorgan and Worcestershire. But with a team of international stars such as captain Marcus Trescothick, keeper Craig Kieswetter and Jos Buttler, to name but a few, Somerset will always be a tough test for the Steelbacks.
