Stephen Peters marked his return to action with a fluent 92 for Northamptonshire's Second XI against a Scotland Development side at Wantage Road on Tuesday.
The club's four-day captain - on the sidelines with a broken finger since mid-May - hit 17 fours in his 94-ball knock, boosting the hosts to 289 all out after being put in to bat on the opening day of the three-day friendly.
Rob Keogh (83 from 129 deliveries) offered best support - with Ben Duckett (25), Charlie Macdonnell (23) and Zak Khawaja (18) also making useful contributions.
The Scottish side then hit early trouble and closed on 13-2 in reply with a wicket apiece for Ollie Stone and Luke Evans, both to catches in the slips.
The match continues on Wednesday and Thursday.
