Glamorgan v Steelbacks
Friday night sees the Steelbacks travel to Cardiff, to take on Glamorgan in a crucial Friends Life t20 game. It will be both teams’ penultimate game in the group and they are top two in the group, so will be looking to secure their place in the Quarter-Finals.
The Steelbacks had a mixed weekend last week as they came out of their double header with one loss and one win, away to Warwickshire and Worcestershire respectably. In the win against Worcestershire Royals on Sunday, Richard Levi powered the Steelbacks to 137 for 5 with an innings of 70 from 43 balls, whilst David Willey led the bowling attack with figures of 3 for 13.
Glamorgan’s last game saw them take on Worcestershire Royals at New Road as well, on Tuesday night. In what was a very tight game Glamorgan managed to chase down Worcestershire’s total of 157, with 5 balls remaining thanks to half centuries from Jim Allenby and Murray Goodwin. The win saw Glamorgan move into second place in the group on 10 points, two behind the Steelbacks.
The last time these two sides met in the competition, the game was a thriller going down to the last ball here at the County Ground. The Steelbacks came out victors after Steven Crook hit the game winning boundary on the last ball to win by 7 wickets. Muhammad Azhar Ullah came away with man of the match honours after he recorded bowling figures of 4 for 14, whilst Cameron White (68) and Alex Wakely (52*) impressed with the bat.
