Steelbacks v Worcestershire Royals
The Steelbacks host Worcestershire Royals in their final Friends Life t20 group game, on Tuesday night. The Steelbacks have been on hot form throughout the competition and have already secured a home quarter-final and will be looking to continue their unbeaten record at home in the competition.
The Steelbacks have won 7 games from 9 so far in the competition and sit well clear on top of the Midlands/Wales/West group on 14 points. Last time out the Steelbacks faced Glamorgan in Cardiff, which saw the top two teams in the group go head to head. In front of a 10,000 strong crowd at Sofia Gardens, Muhammad Azhar Ullah took 4 wickets for 16 runs to limit Glamorgan to 125 for 9 from their 20 overs. Then Cameron White put in a man of the match innings as he scored 71 not out from 48 balls including 3 massive sixes, as he helped the Steelbacks chase down their target with 9 balls remaining to win by 6 wickets.
Worcestershire have struggled this year in the competition, as they sit fifth in the group on six points. But in their last game they pulled of a brilliant upset win over Somerset who were looking to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. After Kieswetter and Trego scored half-centuries to drive Somerset to 188 for 4 after 20 overs, it looked like Worcestershire would struggle in front of their home crowd. But Andre Russell starred for Worcestershire as he scored 77 not out from 42 balls including 6 sixes, as Worcestershire reached the target with 2 balls remaining to win by 5 wickets.
In all competitions, the Steelbacks have met Worcestershire four times already and have won all four games. The last time these two sides met in the Friends Life t20 at New Road, the Steelbacks came out on top. South African international Richard Levi drove the Steelbacks to 137 for 6, as he scored 70 from 43 balls including 6 sixes. Then tight bowling meant that Worcestershire could only score 132 for 6, with Willey starring with figures of 3 for 13, as the Steelbacks won by 5 runs.
