Northamptonshire return to LV= County Championship action this week, following their successful Friends Life t20 break. Northants host promotion rivals Gloucestershire here at the County Ground on Friday, as the team continue to chase promotion to Division One.

Northants currently sit second in the table, 8 points adrift of leaders Lancashire but 18 ahead of third placed Essex. After a very positive start to the season going unbeaten through their first eight games, Northants have hit a little road bump after losing twice to promotion rivals Lancashire.

Gloucestershire are currently sitting fourth in the division 24 points behind Northants. Gloucestershire have been inconsistent in the County Championship so far this season having won and lost three games, as well as drawing four. Last time out Gloucestershire took on Worcestershire at Cheltenham and came out impressive victors, winning by 6 wickets and they came away with 22 points.

The last time these two sides met was at Bristol in April. On that occasion Northants came out on top winning by 7 wickets. Steven Crook was man of the match taking 7 wickets in the match as well as scoring a half century, along with James Middlebrook and Alex Wakely. Northants came away from the game with 24 points.
