In my last year as Chairman nothing has given me greater pleasure and excitement than watching our Steelbacks lift the t20 trophy at Edgbaston.
In the last twelve months we have gone through enormous changes in personnel affecting all aspects of this fine Club. I have been greatly encouraged by the speed and enthusiasm with which a new Chief Executive, new Coach and two new Captains have been embraced by the Club and been able to produce such positive results in all forms of the game.
The T20 is such an important element of modern county cricket and therefore it is very rewarding that our first silverware in twenty one years has come in this format of the game…..and what a terrific finals day it was! The contribution from all members of the squad was outstanding and particularly satisfying for us, as underdogs, to sweep the opposition away so convincingly.
We still have plenty of exciting cricket to play in order to secure promotion to Division One of the County Championship and to reach the finals of the Pro 40 competition. I would wish David Ripley all the very best in trying to secure even greater success at the end of this magnificent season.
