Northamptonshire were well-beaten in Monday's Second XI Trophy match against Sussex at Horsham - going down by exactly 100 runs.
Put in to bat, the hone side battled to 192-7 - scoring 78 of those runs in their last ten overs - thanks largely to useful contributions from Luke Wells (63) and Joe Gatting (30).
Ollie Stone (1-29) and Matt Spriegel (1-24) both kept it tight in their eight-over stints while trialist Usman Arif picked up 2-25 from five.
But the County's batting then disintegrated and they were dismissed for just 92 with Lewis Hatchett (4-11), Will Beer (3-22) and Wells (2-14) all on target.
Josh Tolley did his best to hold things together with a battling 51 before he was seventh man out at 73. No-one else reached double figures.
The two sides begin a three-day Championship match at Horsham on Tuesday.
