Northants Cricket is delighted to announce that One Day captain Alex Wakely has signed a new two-year deal with the club, to remain at the County Ground until the end of the 2015 season.
Alex enjoyed a superb 2013 season as he led the Steelbacks to Friends Life t20 silverware, the club’s first competition win for 21 years.
The 25-year-old batsman scored heavily in one day formats last season, with 366 runs at an average of 36.6 in the Yorkshire Bank 40 as the Steelbacks fell just short of a semi-final berth in a well-fought campaign.
The former England U19’s Captain also scored 457 runs in the LV= County Championship and 214 runs in the Friends Life t20 to round off a productive season with the bat.
Alex said after signing his new contract, "I'm very happy to have signed a new deal with the club. I love this club and consider myself a Northants boy through and through. I’ve been here since I was 12 and have enjoyed some amazing times but none more so than in 2013, where we finally won a trophy.”
“I feel the whole club is in a very good state, the players we have are as good as any out there and I believe the club is going in all the right directions. I have so much more I want to achieve with my own game and I am very happy that Northants have given me the chance to do this at the County Ground. I can't wait for the challenge of First Division LV= County Championship cricket and hopefully a chance to prove myself"
Head Coach David Ripley added, “It is great news that Alex has decided to extend his stay here at the County Ground, he’s a fine young player, improving captain and a top person. I am looking forward to continuing our work together over the next two years and beyond.”
