Northants Cricket regrets to announce the death of former vice-chairman and long-serving committee member Tony Holton.
Tony joined Northamptonshire's general committee back in 1980 - at the behest of Giles Randall, after his company had sponsored Allan Lamb's car - and remained closely involved for 30 years before choosing not to seek re-election to the board in 2010.
He chaired the Ground Committee for a number of years and played a key role in many important projects at Wantage Road, including the major renovation of the Spencer Pavilion and building the Lynn Wilson Indoor Centre. He was also an ex-officio member of the cricket committee and the club's vice-chairman.
In all, he served on the committee and board under five chairmen - Doug Lucas, Frank Chamberlain, Lynn Wilson, Simon Schanschieff and Martin Lawrence - giving wise, valued and loyal support to all of them.
Tony was a bridge between the era when - as he recalled - "many decisions were taken over a game of snooker at the Cheyne Walk Club in Northampton" and the current multi-million-pound business.
He also took a keen interest in recreational cricket and was an officer of Towcestrians CC for many years.
All at Northants Cricket offer their sincerest condolences to Tony's family and friends and place on record their deep gratitude for his three decades of outstanding service to the club.
