Northants Teams Up With Air Ambulance

Northants Cricket is delighted to announce that the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service will be the club’s chosen charity for 2014.

To mark the launch of this partnership Steelbacks limited overs captain Alex Wakely and wicket keeper David Murphy visited the charity’s base in Coventry and met some of the outstanding men and women who work for the service.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance Service is a great cause, which since it was founded in 2003 has carried over 14,500 missions, saving countless lives. On average the service attends three missions per day, with one mission costing approximately £1,700. The Charity needs to raise £1.7 million per year to keep the helicopter flying. A third of the just under 800 rescues the Air Ambulance Service made in 2013, were in Northamptonshire.

Tracy Grunwell, Head of Fundraising for The Air Ambulance said, "It's fantastic to see Northants Cricket getting involved and helping to raise money for this incredibly worthy cause. The Air Ambulance is a vital service in this area and for us to work together with Northants Cricket is a really exciting opportunity, we look forward to bucket collecting and hosting great events which will help us keep the Air Ambulance flying.  The support that we receive will make a huge difference, not just to us but to the lives of the people we save.”

David Smith, Chief Executive of Northants Cricket said, “Northants Cricket is delighted to be supporting the Northamptonshire & Warwickshire Air Ambulance Service during 2014 as our chosen charity. We recognise the significant contribution that they make towards saving lives in the most difficult of circumstances.”

Northants Cricket will host various events throughout 2014, to help raise money for the charity, so follow the Northants Cricket website for news on these events.
