Northants Cricket can confirm that South African all-rounder Rory Kleinveldt will be playing for the County in the 2014 season, as one of the club’s overseas players, subject to a successful visa application.
Kleinveldt will fill the void left by Jackson Bird, who was unable to play this season due to a back injury.
The 31-year old will play 8 LV= County Championship matches and 10 NatWest T20 Blast games and is expected to be available for the LVCC game against Yorkshire, which starts on 20th April.
Northants Cricket Head Coach David Ripley said, “We are very confident, we have the no objections certificate from the South African Cricket Board which was the main stumbling block. We've just got to go through the visa process now and we're hopeful that Rory will be with us for the second game of the season.
We had one or two other plates in the air if Rory couldn't come but it was looking tougher with the IPL going on and other international commitments. He's an all-round cricketer and can contribute in our one-day format as well as our Championship format."
