After a 10 year absence from Division One of the LV= County Championship, Northants face a stern test in their opening fixture, as they welcome reigning champions Durham to the County Ground.
Northants’ preparations have been less than ideal with injuries crippling part of the squad and leaving the side without an overseas player for the opening game.
Despite this Stephen Peters and his side are confident they can make a real impact in Division One this season and look forward to welcoming the champions.
Durham will be bringing a strong side to the County Ground, with the likes of Graham Onions and Scott Borthwick named in the 13 man squad, which will be captained by Paul Collingwood.
David Willey has not yet recovered from his ongoing back issue, whilst Ben Duckett is currently struggling with a knee injury, meaning the pair miss out on the opening game.
Both Rob Keogh and James Kettleborough broke a finger on day one against Yorkshire, so unfortunately can’t play in the opening fixture.
Rob Newton has recovered from his broken finger to play, and David Sales will come back after missing some of pre-season due to a calf injury.
