On day two of the LV= County Championship game between Northants and Durham, the visitors reconvened on 265 for 5, with the hosts knowing they would need a few wickets in the first hour.
It took a little bit of time before the first wicket of the day fell, as Phil Mustard who had been Durham’s best batsman, fell for 91 as he edged a Crook delivery to David Murphy. Durham’s lower order put on a good fight, as they took Durham to 452 before being dismissed.
Muhammad Azhar Ullah was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 116 runs. Chambers, Hall and Middlebrook all took two wickets each, in what was a good group effort in their opening innings of the season.
After Durham were all out in the afternoon session, Captain Stephen Peters and James Middlebrook led the Northants charge, with a good opening partnership of 66, before Middlebrook was caught off Harrison for 43. Peters and Coetzer both looked very impressive before going for 51 and 53 respectively.
Rob Newton (24) and Matthew Spriegel (20) saw Northants through to the end of play, as the team finished on 200 for 3. The pair will be looking to build on their partnership in the morning, to earn Northants some more bonus points.
