Northants began the day on 200 for 3, with Rob Newton and Matthew Spriegel batting, knowing they needed to push on to chase down Durham’s total of 452.
Unfortunately throughout the first session, Northants struggled to put together a lengthy partnership, after bright starts by a number of the batsmen. Star of the innings for Northants, was Matthew Spriegel who stayed in for the majority of the innings, as he scored 97. Northants ended their innings on 378, trailing by 74 runs.
Much like the first innings, Durham lost an early wicket, as Stoneman was caught at slip off Chambers. Michael Richardson made his second half century of the game, ending the day on 53 not out, Gareth Breese joined Richardson at the crease near the end of the day. James Middlebrook was the pick of the bowlers taking four wickets, as Durham finished on 178 for 5 at stumps.
