Day Two of the game between Northants and Yorkshire at Headingley could not have gone any worse for the visitors.
Yorkshire started the day on 328 for 7, with Northants aiming to get the prize wicket of Gary Ballance who was on 117. The Northants bowlers struggled to make an initial breakthrough, as Yorkshire added 68 runs before Sidebottom was trapped lbw by Middlebrook for 15.
The wicket of Balance followed shortly, as he was trapped lbw by Hall for 174, that wicket equalled the world record for lbw dismissals by a team in an innings, during a first class game with eight. Northants however couldn’t finish Yorkshire off, as the tenth wicket pairing between Patterson and Brooks put on 61 runs before Yorkshire declared at lunch on 459-9.
Following lunch, Northants would have wanted to forget the afternoon session even happened, as they attempted to chase down Yorkshire’s total. Northants struggled to get any partnership going as wickets fell regularly, with the team finishing on a disappointing 94 all out. Matthew Spriegel was the only shining light for Northants, as he scored an unbeaten 29.
Following the Northants innings, the weather turned for the worse and play was not able to resume for the rest of the day. Northants will start day three batting in their second innings, as Yorkshire enforced the follow-on with Northants 335 runs behind.
