Lancashire began day three on 244/5 leading by 199 runs, with England wicket keeper Jos Buttler looking impressive on 66, partenered by Tom Smith.
Play did not start until 1.45pm due to bad weather, but once play did start the Northants bowling attack did very well. Muhammad Azhar Ullah struck first, trapping danger man Buttler lbw for 72, before Olly Stone took over. Stone took 4 wickets for the loss of only 8 runs in 6 overs during the session, as Lancashire finished on 284, leaving Northants 240 to win.
The Northants innings did get off to a good start, as Stephen Peters was bowled by James Anderson for 9, and things looked like they were about to get worse when Northants lost Matthew Spriegel, Rob Newton, Andrew Hall in the space of 7 balls.
Fortunately opener James Middlebrook (78) anchored the Northants innings, as he saw out the day alongside young Ben Duckett who finished on 24 not out, with Northants ending on 145/5, needing another 95 runs to win.
Admission for the final day’s play is only £5 and play will start at 11am. So make sure you come down and cheer the team on!
