We are delighted to announce that Andrew Hall, James Middlebrook and Matthew Spriegel are the nominees for the Steffans Jewellers Player of the Month for April.
Hall has been using all of his experience to get the most out of the April conditions, especially using his seam movement to take 14 wickets at an average of 21. This includes taking a season’s best 4 for 103 in the first innings against Yorkshire at Headingley.
James Middlebrook has been a rock for Northants, opening the batting to great effect. Middlebrook is averaging 42 with the bat and has already hit two half centuries. Despite it being April, which is not known for having conditions conjusive for spinners, Middlebrook has already had five-fer, the only Northants player to do so this season. These performances have seen the all-rounder place 9th on the Overall FTI MVP table, the highest of all the Northants players.
After a difficult first season, Matthew Spriegel has started 2014 very strongly, anchoring the Northants innings on more than occasion, showing how important time at the crease is, as he averages more than two hours at the crease per innings. Spriegel is Northants’ second highest run scorer averaging 40 and has the highest score for the team this season, with an excellent 97 against Durham, which is one of his two half centuries.
The winner will be announced on Friday 9th May, with the Player of the Month being awarded a Hugo Boss watch.
Fans will have a chance to win as well, as we will choose one lucky person who votes and reward them with a pair of tickets to the NatWest T20 Blast game against Leicestershire Foxes on Friday 23rd May.
