Durham MCCU vs. Northants Preview

This weekend Northants travel up to Durham to take on Durham MCCU, with the game starting on Bank Holiday Monday.

Northants have struggled in the first month of this season, mainly due to their lengthy injury list, as surely no other First Class County has had as much bad luck as Northants this season. However this game against Durham MCCU will give some players the chance to find form or just get some important time at the crease after an injury absence.

In Durham MCCU’s last game they faced Durham over three days, with the game ending in a draw. Cameron Steel and Ollie Steele stood out with the bat, as both scored half centuries, whilst all-rounder Chaitanya Bishnoi is a potential danger man with bat and ball.

Team News

Head Coach David Ripley has made several changes to the team that lost to Lancashire, allowing some players to recover from any knocks they have picked up in the first month.

Coming into the squad after recovering from injury is James Kettleborough, David Sales and Graeme White, whilst Maurice Chambers is also recalled.

Ripley has decided to rest Stephen Peters, James Middlebrook, Matthew Spriegel, Andrew Hall, Steven Crook, David Willey David Murphy, Olly Stone and Muhammad Azhar Ullah.

This game will give several Academy players the chance to impress David Ripley, after starting their season well. 15 year-old Saif Zaib, Gary Knight, Chad Barrett, Jack Goode and Matthew Taylor will all travel with the squad to Durham.
