Coetzer Made Steelbacks T20 Captain

Northants Cricket is delighted to announce that Kyle Coetzer has been made the Steelbacks T20 Captain for the 2014 season.

Coetzer will lead the Steelbacks in all NatWest T20 Blast games this season, starting off against Yorkshire Vikings on Friday 16th May at Headingley, as the Steelbacks look to defend their NatWest T20 Blast crown.

Kyle is a dependable opening batsman, who last season scored 337 runs at an average of 30, as the Steelbacks won the Friends Life t20. Coetzer has good leadership experience, as he currently captains the Scotland national side, who he will lead out against England on Friday.

On being appointed captain, Kyle said, “I am very excited about the challenge of captaining the side in defence of the T20 title. We had a fantastic time in the competition last season and hopefully, we can repeat that again this year. My previous captaincy experience should stand me in good stead.”

Northants Cricket Head Coach, David Ripley commented, “Kyle is a very level headed lad, has a consistent personality and he will continue Alex’s calm style of captaincy. He has also captained Scotland in T20 cricket and we will benefit from that experience.”
